My Teaching Philosophy
Learning:

As a teacher, I strive to facilitate learning by encouraging an autonomy supportive learning environment. I believe students who learn best are those who become passionate about what they are learning, and for this to happen, students must see themselves reflected in what they are learning. I look at learning from a holistic point of view, not only in Health and Physical Education, but in English too. Students should develop mentally, socially, emotionally, and spiritually as they engage with content, and they should experience content in multiple ways.

Assessment:

Students should have multiple opportunities to be assessed on their progress throughout a course. They should also have multiple opportunities for feedback from themselves, their peers, and myself (as the teacher) before they submit something to be evaluated. Students should also have opportunities to demonstrate their learning in different ways that show curriculum expectations.

Teaching:

In Health and Physical Education, my goal and philosophy is to inspire a love for movement. My goal is to create life long movers who find at least one thing they are passionate about that will help them lead healthy, active lives. I firmly believe that in order to learn and succeed in life, one needs to prioritize their health and well-being first.

In English, my goal and philosophy is to create critical thinkers who can read beyond the literal meaning of the text, make connections to create their own personally relevant meanings, and express those thoughts in a sophisticated, coherent, and well-articulated manner.

As a teacher, I believe in reflective practice. In order to continue to improve, I think it's important to engage in professional development work shops, continue my journey as a lifelong educator, and ask for student feedback so that I can continue to improve my craft.
